Peshawar: The National Highway Authority (NHA) revealed on Wednesday that the dualization of Old Bannu Road was in process and the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) had completed 15% of the work on the project’s first phase – a news source reported. This included the 40-km long Domail-Khurram portion of the road.

The NHA official further revealed that the FWO also had been working on the second package which is a 35-km long Khurram-Krapa portion of the road. He added that the organisation had so far completed 13% of work on this package.
Meanwhile, NHA officials said that the NCC-IKAN-HRPL joint venture had the contract for working on the Old Bannu Road project’s third package that includes work on the Gaandi Chowk-Sarai Naurang portion – which is 8-km long. He added that the joint venture has completed 61% of physical work on this package.

Moreover, the NHA official said that such infrastructure projects in the less developed areas would help provide economic uplift via expedited trade activities. He explained that the dualization of the said road would provide an alternate route for the heavy traffic movement on the Indus Highway (N-55) – minimising the traffic burden.
