Upper Dir: Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Abdul Majeed on Wednesday announced a plan to plant a total of 2.5 million trees in the region this year — with the initiative being part of the spring plantation drive in District Upper Dir, according to news sources.

The DFO made this announcement while addressing an inauguration ceremony organised at the Dodba forest nursery. He took the opportunity to urge the government and the area’s residents to take up the responsibility to ensure the success of the plantation drive. He was of the view that public cooperation would facilitate the development of forests in this district.

Deputy Commissioner Khalid Iqbal Khattak also spoke during the ceremony, and said that trees and forests were vital for the promotion of tourism in the district. He further said that tourist destinations like Zakhana, Kumrat, Usheri Darra, Lowari tunnel and others were famous for their lush green forests and that the forests of the district were yet unharmed from negative environmental influences.
