Rawalpindi: Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Engineer Aamir Khattak reviewed the progress of the DREAMS-1 (Developing Resilient Environments and Advancing Municipal Services) project during his visit on Thursday. The initiative, supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Punjab Government, aims to provide clean drinking water to approximately 1 million residents.
The project, with a total cost of Rs35 billion, is scheduled for completion by December 2027. It includes sourcing 25.8 million gallons of water daily from the Chahan Dam to reduce groundwater dependency and improve water supply infrastructure.

MD WASA Muhammad Saleem Ashraf highlighted key features of the project, including a 20-megawatt solar power system, 92,000 metered house connections, and measures to reduce non-revenue water (NRW). The project also promises enhanced water quality management in line with WHO and NEQS standards, alongside boosting WASA’s revenue by Rs100 million per month.
Currently, the project has achieved 5% progress since its commencement last month. Commissioner Khattak emphasized ensuring transparency, quality, and timely completion to minimize public inconvenience.
In a related development, Director General Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Kinza Murtaza held consultations with the business community and Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) regarding the Rawalpindi Ring Road project. This initiative aims to alleviate traffic congestion and promote economic growth through modern infrastructure.
