Karachi: The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has approved passive immunisation as a treatment for the coronavirus patients in the country, a news source reported.

DRAP further approved the local production of ventilators and the manufacturing of the ingredients for chloroquine – a drug found to be effective against the novel coronavirus. The approval was granted after the local ventilators had passed the technical evaluation. Similarly, the medicine had also passed the clinical trials.
As per reports, the proposal to treat coronavirus patients through passive immunisation had come from the National Institute of Blood Disease (NIBD). After the official announcement of the treatment’s approval, patients will be treated at medical facilities in Karachi, Lahore and Jamshoro.

Reportedly, the government is considering making it mandatory for patients who recover to donate their blood plasma – which has the antibodies to tackle the coronavirus.
