According to this draft, the role of LDA will be limited to the city’s boundaries. Currently, it manages the entire Lahore Division, which includes Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, and Nankana districts.

As per reports, the development authority hasn’t been able to manage its operations effectively in these districts. LDA was assigned added responsibilities during the tenure of the previous government. This corresponded with a hike in institutional power – in terms of managing operations of private housing schemes, and commercial projects in the districts mentioned.

The draft also provides recommendations for putting the Lahore Mayor in-charge of LDA, Water and Sanitation Authority, health dispensaries and primary schools operations. These proposals will allow LDA to focus on reducing major civic issues in Lahore. These include increasing commercialisation, traffic problems, and rising environmental pollution levels.
