Lahore: The authorities concerned have prepared a draft pertaining to a new water policy and forwarded it to the cabinet for approval, a news source quoted Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Managing Director Syed Zahid Aziz. The draft would pave the way towards the formation of a water commission.
The MD WASA expressed these views during a meeting with an LCCI delegation led by president Almas Haider. He said there is a demand of one million water connections in Punjab, but not a single manufacturer unit exists.
On his part, the LCCI president said that WASA has fixed monthly charges of PKR 100,000 and PKR 50,000 for the installation of one and one-and-a-half cusec tube wells respectively. He added that such a move would add to the woes of the industrial sector.
He recommended a fresh survey of WASA consumers, saying that the agency should install metres at all the industrial and commercial units, so that bills could be generated as per the actual use of water.
