Lahore: The authorities concerned have prepared a draft law to facilitate the jurisdiction expansion gig proposed for the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA), a news source reported. The officials have also suggested renaming WCLA as the Walled Cities and Heritage Areas Authority Punjab.
The blueprint was presented during a meeting presided over by Chief Secretary Yousaf Naseem Khokhar at the Civial Secretariat on Wednesday. He said that Punjab was home to multiple historical cities; adding that the restoration of the historical buildings would promote tourism in the province.

He mentioned that historical and cultural heritage sites were national assets and their preservation was a collective responsibility. Secretary Khokhar also directed the relevant departments to work hard for the preservation of archaeological, historical and cultural structures and seek international assistance for the purpose. He stressed the need for creating awareness among the public about the preservation of heritage sites.

Moreover, he ordered the officials concerned to identify the cities for WCLA jurisdiction expansion effort. In response, the participants suggested to expand the authority’s scope to the cities of Multan and Bhera in the initial phase.
