Peshawar: The cultural directorate of the province has been directed to do more for the preservation of heritage sites in the province, according to a news report. The caretaker Minister for Sports, Tourism, Museums, Archaeology, Culture and Youth Affairs Rashid Khan has said that the culture department should also continue efforts for the identification and excavation of archaeological and heritage sites in the province so that these buildings can be protected, preserved, and restored.
These directions were given during a meeting attended by various dignitaries of ministries. Khan has also pointed out that a number of new initiatives have been taken while new ones have been identified for tourist spots, enhancing capacity by installing camping pods, setting up a tourist services directorate and overall beautification of areas such as Naran, Kalam, Chitral, and Buner.
The Culture and Youth Affairs Secretary Muhammad Tariq has said that several uplift projects are also being executed under the Tourism Integrated Area Development Unit (TAIDU) which would be supported by the World Bank.
