Faisalabad: The district government has planned to develop three parking plazas at three different sites around the Clock Tower bazaars in the city. The initiative has been taken to address parking issues faced by shoppers and traders.
The project will provide parking facility to eight shopping areas such as Kutchery Bazaar, Kharkana Bazaar, Montgomery Bazaar, Rail Bazaar, Jhang Bazaar, Chiniot Bazaar, Aminpur Bazaar, and Bhawana Bazaar and will cost the government Rs 4 billion.
District Coordination Officer Mr Noor ul Ameen Mengal told the provincial government officials that the old city had eight major marketplaces spanning 0.45 square kilometres and having 25,000 shops.
According to a news source, the parking issue had been taken up to the Punjab government by former commissioner Tahir Hussain Shah in 2010. Now the government has finally planned to develop three parking plazas and the selected sites for these plazas are Zail Ghar, Old Corporation Office and Old Mayor House.
The news source reported further that these plazas would also have shops and would have a capacity to park 3,267 cars and 6,161 motorcycles.
