Officials stated that this measure will help curb the illegal practice of land grabbing in the area, and is the first body of this nature in Swabi. Its purpose is to help legitimate landowners recover their properties from land grabbers, who are often influential and well organised.
The district administration also stated that it was already taking steps to halt this menace, as property disputes can often turn violent. To this end, it directed all tehsildars to maintain a register of state land and shared land (shamilat), along with the names of owners and their shares, so that any illegal occupiers can be identified and removed.
