In the initial phase, the distribution of the bags was done by Gujranwala Deputy Commissioner Naila Baqir Rana, along with members of the civil society. The district administration had initiated the campaign against plastic bags three months ago. During this time, the administration had provided the public with free reusable cloth bags so that they can cut back on the use of plastic bags.
After an awareness campaign of two months, the district administration permanently banned plastic bags. Following the ban, it started taking action against shopkeepers still using/selling plastic bags. The public greatly appreciated these measures.

Now, the civil society, namely the H.N Care & Cure Centre, has joined the district administration in providing help to ensure these measures. The centre will assist the administration in distributing free 8,000 cloth bags to markets and other public avenues across the city.
On this occasion, the Gujranwala DC requested other social and public circles to become a part of the campaign.
