Lahore: On orders issued by Supreme Court of Pakistan, a joint investigation team (JIT) has been formed to probe discrepancies in dozens of housing schemes, a news source quoted sources from Anti-Corruption Department. Reportedly, discrepancies were spotted in 204 housing schemes in the city.
Formal investigation has been started to probe the situation. So far, out of the existing unapproved housing schemes, 150 have been investigated. These private real estate developments have inducted a loss of billions of rupees to the national exchequer.
The JIT will comprise of officers from National Accountability Bureau, Federal Investigation Agency deputy director, Revenue additional deputy commissioner, and Anti-Corruption director. The sources claim that housing societies found in illegal practices or operating without having a formal approval issued by the competent authority will face legal charges.
In addition to carrying out legal actions against these, recovery will also be made from the developers found engaged in illegal activities.
