Larkana: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Wednesday remarked that direct Local Government (LG) elections could resolve the problems faced by locals in the country’s mega cities, a news source reported. Speaking to the media during his visit to Larkana, he said that his government would introduce the ‘best local bodies system’ in the country.

PM Khan stated that the said system would see to the direct transfer of funds to district councils. He added that the system could be strengthened if powers were devolved to the grass-root level. He also revealed that the government was planning to rectify the errors in the National Financial Commission (NFC) Award after a consultation process.
Expressing his views on direct LG elections for local representatives, he said that this initiative could resolve the problems of mega cities like Lahore and Karachi. He added that the local representatives should have adequate empowerments and resources.

On the issue of the COVID-19 pandemic, PM Khan said that the government not only has to save the people from the virus but hunger too.
