Timergara: Local farmers in Dir have been reaping benefits from vertical farming of tomatoes in the area, according to a news report. This information was revealed by Director Agriculture Extension Wing, Lower Dir, Murad Ali Khan. He stated that this innovative agricultural method allowed farmers to produce higher crop yields from smaller areas.
While speaking to media representatives, he said that tomatoes had been sown over 2,000 kanals in Lower Dir on an experimental basis, out of a total of 5,000 kanals of tomato harvests in the area. He said that the experiment had been successful, and farmers reported significantly higher yields. He also revealed that his department would introduce vertical farming for grapes in the area to promote modern agricultural methods.
An awareness campaign in this regard is also in the works. The local farmers had been introduced to this method in a series of workshops, which helped them overcome the shortage of fertile land in Lower Dir, and get more produce.
