Lahore: The Punjab government has devised a digital solution to do away with the province’s archaic patwar culture, a news source quoted Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar as saying. Further, he stated that the Punjab Land Records Authority (PLRA) would be tasked with heading this effort.

He shared this information during a meeting held with members of Punjab Assembly at his office on Monday. The CM said that the agreement signed between the PLRA and several commercial banks would play a vital road in changing the system. For this purpose, banks and other financial institutions have access to a secure link to digital land record’s central database, which will allow traders and farmers get loans easily, he added.

The digitisation of the old revenue system has allowed securing of 10 million pages of revenue record and related details of 5.5 million land owners. This is in addition to the fact that the system allows online access to the record 23,000 revenue statuses at any moment.
To help make the new system benefit every Pakistani, revenue record data will also be accessible to overseas Pakistanis, said Buzdar. For this purpose, special counters will be set up in Pakistani embassies in the UAE, KSA, UK and the USA.

Buzdar also announced that a PKR 2 billion project of setting up 115 land record centres and 20 mobile vans project will be completed soon.
