Islamabad: Ministry of Communication has decided to prepare a digital directory for all highways in the country, reported a news source. This digitalisation will help collect and maintain data for national highways, motorways, expressways and all other carpeted roads and non-carpeted roads. In this regard, the services of an engineering consultancy firm will be hired.
Pakistan currently has 12,131 long motorways, expressways and strategic routes, out of which 39 motorways and highways are managed by the National Highway Authority.
The project will be managed by the National Transport Research Commission, which operates under the Ministry of Communication. While corporation at provincial level will also be extended.
This digitalisation will help figure out important details including length of available road network, their physical condition, and which one of these need maintenance and upgradation.
