Islamabad: Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) Chief Census Commissioner and Chief Statistician Naeem Uz Zafar has revealed the initial results of the 7th national and first-ever digital census of the country, according to news published on May 22.

During a press conference, Zafar stated that the total population of Pakistan has reached 249,566,743 – which rounds off to a population of 249.5 million or 25 Crores. Here is the provincial breakdown of the census:
- The population of the most populous province of Punjab has reached 127,474,000 – which rounds off to 127.4 million or 12.7 Crores
- The population of Sindh has reached 57,931,000 – which rounds off to 57.9 million or 5.7 Crores
- The population of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reached 39,823,000 – which rounds off to 39.7 million or 3.9 Crores
- The population of the largest province of Balochistan has reached 21,977,000– which rounds off to 21.9 million or 2.1 Crores
- The population of the federal capital Islamabad has reached 2,359,422– which rounds off to 2.3 million or 23 lacs

It was highlighted that as compared with the figures of the last census, the population of Pakistan has increased by 49 million (around 4.9 Crores). The chief also revealed that this first-ever digital census will cost the national exchequer around PKR 34 billion.
