Islamabad: The construction work on Daimer and Mohmand dams is to start this year and is expected to be completed by 2020, according to a news report. The Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) Chairman Muzammil Hussain shared this timeline while he briefed Prime Minister Nasir-ul-Mulk on the project.
During the briefing, exact details on location of Diamer-Basha and Mohmand dams were also shared; Diamir Bhasha Dam is to be built on Indus River 315 km upstream Tarbela Dam, while Mohmand Dam will be constructed on Swat River 5 km upstream Munda Headworks in Mohmand Agency. The estimated construction cost of Diamer-Bhasha Dam is PKR 894,257 million.
Hussain also revealed that Wadpa is in process to evaluation of ‘expression of interest’ documents received last year by international and national consulting firms for six joint ventures. A number of other Wapda’s hydropower projects are expected to complete buy the year 2023, Mulk was told.
Hussain will also preside over the first meeting of Implementation Committee of Diamer Bhasha and Mohmand Dam tomorrow.
