Islamabad: The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) on Wednesday provided its approval to the development of the Diamer-Bhasha Dam project, a news source reported. The authority further recommended the initiative’s land-acquisition summary to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for its final sanction.

According to details, the CDWP sanctioned the development of eight projects worth PKR 13 billion and referred five projects worth PKR 112.2 billion to the ECNEC. The schemes referred to the ECNEC for its approval included a summary of PKR 20 billion required for the acquisition of land and resettlement of construction of Diamer-Bhasha Dam, which has a total construction cost of USD 14 billion.

The officials concerned also presented four projects pertaining to the Physical Planning & Housing during the meeting. Among these, the meeting approved the project titled ‘Promoting Sustainable Urban Development through Resilient Resources Management with a Participatory Approach in Mansehra’ worth PKR 1040.6 million. Meanwhile, it referred ‘Construction of Eastern Wastewater Treatment Plant (44 MGD) of Faisalabad City (Phase-1)’ to the ECNEC.

During the meeting, the CDWP also approved a Transport & Communications project titled ‘Construction of Bridge over River Ravi at Mal Fatyana District in Toba Tek Singh’.

Apart from the Diamer-Bhasha Dam project, CDWP also discussed two more projects related to water resources. The meeting referred the Naulong Dam project to ECNEC, and approved ‘Project Readiness Financing for Punjab Water Resources Management’.
