Islamabad: The Federal Minister for Planning, Development, Reforms and Special Initiatives Asad Umar has issued directions to expedite the pace of developmental work on the Diamer Bhasha Dam to ensure that the project deadline is met – a news source reported. The minister was presiding over a high-level meeting to review the progress of the work on the dam when he notified these instructions.

The meeting was held to discuss matters relating to the project’s land acquisition concerns. One of the important points on the agenda concerned the contract for dam’s construction; with a number of other issues also having been discussed.
According to details, the government is looking to finish 25 water reservoir projects during this year and has utilised 42% of the funds allocated for water projects under the going fiscal period.

The meeting was also attended by the Chief Ministers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan; among other high officials – who corresponded through a video link.
