Karachi: Special Assistant to the Chief Minister (CM) for Investment Department and Public-Private Partnership Syed Qasim Naveed Qamar on Tuesday (October 26) disclosed that the construction of Dhabeji Special Economic Zone (SEZ) will start early next year, according to news sources.

CM’s aide, while speaking at the press conference, stated that Dhabeji SEZ is a priority project under the industrial cooperation phase of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He went on to say that the provincial government has decided to implement the project under a public-private partnership mode through an international competitive bidding process.
Reportedly, the Dhabeji project was expected to produce USD 1 billion in investment and create 100,000 employment opportunities. Special Assistant Qamar disclosed that the bidding process has been completed in accordance with Sindh Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (SPPRA) Rules.

Moreover, the CM’s aide mentioned that the developer will be responsible for providing utilities and infrastructure, and conducting operations and maintenance in the SEZ. The provincial government will provide direct access to both the National Highway and Port Qasim in a bid to transform Dhabeji into a commercial and economic hub of industrialisation. It was disclosed that the federal and provincial governments were ready to spend more than PKR 12 billion to create enabling environment in terms of facilities and infrastructure.
