The current scandal involving DHA and EOBI has brought other corruption cases to the spotlight as well. The Supreme Court’s probe into DHA’s lack of delivery of the 191 houses of the EOBI has also brought into focus many such properties with multifaceted examples of irregularities and malpractice like Bahria Town, Crown Plaza in F-7, Eden and River Hedge Housing societies in Lahore and Faisalabad, and various properties in Karachi where the price either didn’t equal the land’s worth or the land was bought in the name of ghost owner.
So much so, that the victimized EOBI department, which is meant to facilitate the impoverished and the pensioners, speaks of rampant corruption in its own very department. Billions of rupees have been utilized in a manner which is irregular at best and utterly criminal at worst. The FIA played a key role in investigating multiple cases of wrong doing and following the culprits and received deserved appreciation from the Chief Justice to carrying out this task of unmasking influential people’s malpractices. Regardless EOBI comes under even more reprimand as it used the money of the poor when they needed it the most, i.e. in their old age and have been badly betrayed by the agency they put their trust in.
