Traffic issues in Pakistan are getting nastier day by day and there seem to be no check in place to control the number of vehicles that are issued to the owners at a massive annual rate. No matter how strategically the concerned authorities introduce new road facilities, the road suffocation will not ease down without limiting the number of new vehicles entering the roads.
There have been several debates done on putting certain bans on banks leasing cars but this has also become a mafia too big to be pinned down. Nonetheless we appreciate how swiftly some infrastructures have recently been added to lubricate traffic flow in Lahore. Now DHA too has taken its gloves on to fix its horrendous incoming and outgoing traffic. The decision was taken a couple on months ago and it was widely appreciated by the residents of the DHA because of the obvious reasons.
It was announced in September 2013 that Defence Housing Authority has decided to add some underpasses and overhead bridges to fix traffic issues at important points within the society’s territory and the news was no less than sigh of relief for those who had to go in and out of the society or pass through it on daily basis. Yesterday (4th December, 2013) survey team from DHA visited the main boulevard and took measurements. It looks like the site will soon be close for the traffic and open for some serious digging and reconstruction.
Although there are more than a couple of entry points to DHA Lahore Phase 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 but they all seem to get their share of heavy traffic during most part of the day and night. Busiest of these entry points includes Khayaban e Jinnah aka Main Boulevard DHA and this is where the Authority has chosen to start the development work. It is not clear so far if the road is going to have an underpass or an overhead bridge but it is certain that the facility will be meant for the outgoing traffic of DHA. Considering how busy the road remains, an underpass seems to be a quicker option but not a feasible one. Let’s see what we will have there, an underpass or an overhead bridge.
