Karachi: The Defence Housing Authority (DHA) announced that some portions of different roads in Karachi will be closed off for intermittent times due to the construction of the Storm Water Drain project and shared alternate traffic routes for traffic’s convenience, according to news published in the national dailies on October 9.

The DHA administration shared a map indicating the segments of roads that will be closed for development work. As per the details, work is underway on Khayaban-e-Muhafiz, adjacent to Streets 21 to 13. It was mentioned that diversion can be taken from Khayaban-e-Shujaat and Khayaban-e-Rahat.
Moreover, the news sources mentioned that work is underway on Abdul Sattar Avenue, at the end of Khayaban-e-Rahat. The public can take an alternate route from Khayaban-e-Sehar and Saba Avenue. It was mentioned that work is undergoing at the Khayaban-e-Qasim as well and people can move to Khayaban-e-Ittehad and Khayaban-e-Roomi from Abdul Sattar Avenue. Additionally, the public can use Saba Avenue or 26th Street at Khayaban-e-Ameer Khusro to head towards Khayaban-e-Tariq.

It is pertinent to note that the DHA’s Storm Water Drain project will feature 74-kilometre-long drains with 18-kilometre-long main drains with interceptors and connectors. The project is being executed by the National Logistics Cell (NLC) and is expected to complete the project within 15 months.
