Dera Ghazi Khan: A new dam – Surra Dam – will be constructed in Dera Ghazi Khan (DG Khan) to collect rainwater, at the estimated cost of PKR 8 billion, according to news published on October 31.

The Surra Dam will be constructed in Sanghar Town in DG Khan district which will contain water from hill torrents. As per the details, the construction of the dam is expected to start in December. The said project is expected to be completed within 5 years.
An official (whose name was not disclosed) of the Project Management Office for Punjab Barrages, Rehabilitation, & Modernization stated that the government is launching a water conservation plan which will irrigate 10,000 acres of land. The news source mentioned that the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has funded the planning of the project while the provincial government will provide building costs.

Moreover, the official revealed that Section 4 of the Land Acquisition Act has been fulfilled as 1,700 acres of land have been acquired for the project. He went on to say that the project will create employment opportunities for the residents and boost tourism.
