Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Farkhand Iqbal has said that the ongoing development work in parks will be completed on priority basis and immediately opened for the public. He said this during his visit to the Lake View Park here on Monday where he was apprised of the ongoing development work on Phase-II of the facility. The ongoing development work at the Lake View Park, which is a part of the Phase-II, includes construction of a ‘dodgem car arena’ for children, installation-repair of seating facility for visitors and the establishment of an aviary to add colour to the already popular facility in the federal capital which attracts a large number of visitors from the federal capital as well as those coming from other parts of the country.
The chairman was apprised of the development work on Phase-II of Lake View Park. He was informed that work on water sport facility and other entertainment and recreational facilities was underway. The CDA chairman directed the concerned formations of the authority to ensure timely completion of development work as per international standards with assurance of all precautionary safety and environment-friendly measures in place. He also ordered immediate remove all kinds of encroachments from the vicinity of the park. On the occasion, the chairman also directed the concerned formation of the authority to complete development and maintenance work in all parks of the federal capital and open those for the public.
At present, most parks and play facilities provided by the CDA are not in a good condition. Many parks are in a bad condition due to lack of interest, non-availability of resources and improper upkeep. Most play facilities in these parks for children have broken down, the playfields have become bumpy and the turfs have eroded, either because of negligence or harsh weather conditions. The chairman directed CDA officials to ensure maintenance and cleanliness in parks to avoid hindrance to the public, especially children, who use these facilities.
Farkhand Iqbal said that the CDA would take measures to establish international standard parks in the federal capital. “As the civic body is facing financial crunch, we have chalked out a comprehensive plan to overcome the financial problems for providing facilities to the citizens on priority basis,” he said.
Member Environment Mian Waheed-ud-Din, Member Engineering Syed Ibrar Hussain Shah, Director General Environment Dr. Suleman Sheikh and officers of the concerned formations were present on the occasion and briefed the chairman on the respective development tasks they were doing in the Lake View Park Phase-II Development Project.
