The tribunal has ordered a monitoring committee to oversee the project development and implement over two dozen conditions outlined by it. The verdict was announced by a three-member tribunal, headed by retired Justice Nisar Ahmed Shaikh. The tribunal disposed of the appeal challenging the issuance of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) by the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) for the Malir Expressway project.
The appellants had submitted that SEPA issued EIA approval on April 6 last year to the Malir Expressway Ltd. in violation of the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (Review of Initial Environmental Examination and Environmental Impact Assessment) Regulations, 2014.
