Rawalpindi: Development work to convert Mall Road, also known as Peshawar Road, the biggest and busiest road avenue in the Cantonment, into a signal-free route has been initiated on test basis, reported a news source. The project has been launched to deal with frequent traffic jams on the road.
Under this project, the major intersections on the road will be converted into fish belly U-turns – a term used in traffic engineering technology. Under the administration of the City Traffic Police, temporary fish belies will be made with steel barriers after closing down the intersections. If the results are fruitful in terms of ensuring traffic flow, these fish belies will be replaced by permanent U-turns.
