Lahore: The development work for the Firdous Market Underpass was initiated on Saturday (June 6); with the project’s pile load capacity testing having been completed before its formal piling work could begin, according to a news source. The project was officially launched last month by Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar.

According to the details available, nearly 900 piles will be constructed for the project over a one month period. The remaining work is then expected to be completed in a further two months after the completion of the piling work.
Reportedly, Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Chief Engineer Habib-ul-Haq Randhawa is monitoring the project as per the directions of LDA Director General Ahmad Aziz Tarar.

Earlier this month, the Lahore City Traffic Police had shared the traffic advisory plan for commuters that may be affected by the project’s construction work. In this regard, Jinnah Flyover, Firdous Market Chowk, and Ali Zaib Road had to be closed for all kinds of traffic, and the commuters from Cantt, Cavalry Ground and DHA travelling to Gulberg, Jail Road, Sher Pao Bridge, or Kalma Chowk have been advised to use Shami Road. Additionally, the commuters to and from DHA and Gulberg have been advised to use the Kalma Chowk-Ferozepur road-Qainchi-Walton Road route.
