Mansehra: A spokesperson of the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) indicated that work on the 4,320 megawatts Dasu dam project may begin as early as August 14, according to press reports. The Chinese Ambassador Nong Rong will attend the next meeting and will be briefed on the security measures put in place for Chinese personnel.

The WAPDA administration decided to involve the Chinese ambassador in order to convince Gezhouba Group Company to resume construction work on the hydropower project. According to information shared, the construction on the project, which is located in the Upper Kohistan district, was suspended following an incident in the Dasu area.
The federal government assured the Chinese firm that two platoons of the army have been deployed in Upper and Lower Kohistan, as well as the Kolai-Palas areas, to ensure the safety of Chinese workers. In addition, security personnel would be deployed along the Karakoram Highway.

Aside from that, World Bank (WB) officials visited the Dasu Dam project site to assess security measures. Masroor Naqvi, the project’s chief engineer, revealed that 10% of the work on the Dasu Dam has been completed.
