Lahore: The Punjab government has initiated development schemes worth PKR 18 billion for the welfare of the people of Khanewal district, a news source reported. Additionally, the relevant authorities have also proposed seven other development schemes costing PKR 5 billion.

The initiated schemes include the following:
- Construction and restoration of sewerage system and drains at a cost of PKR 1.5 billion
- Development schemes by the Local Government (LG) for over PKR 160 million
- Construction and rehabilitation of roads costing more than PKR 13 billion
- Construction and rehabilitation of rural roads at a cost of over PKR 460 million, under the Naya Pakistan Manzilen Asan Programme
- Construction and renovation of government buildings, costing over PKR 1.5 billion
- Schemes for tree plantation and forestry, costing more than PKR 100 million
The provincial government has also initiated the following projects in the district as part of the Clean & Green Punjab Programme:
- Recovering land worth more than PKR 3 billion
- Planting 260,000 saplings
- Removing more than 68,000 heaps of garbage
- Disposing more than 35,000 tonnes of waste
- Cleaning more than 26,000 drains

Meanwhile, the seven schemes proposed for district Khanewal include the construction of an underpass in Mian Channu, construction of railway crossing and roads, and comprehensive planning for the sewerage system in the cities.
