Karachi: Sindh Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon has directed TransKarachi to speed up the development work on the Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, a news source reported on November 19.

The 21st board of directors meeting of TransKarachi was held, in which the minister asked the company to expedite work on the project. He went on to say that after the completion of the 22-kilometre-long project, the people of Malir can easily reach the city centre. Minister Memon further directed that all the problems of the contractors must be resolved so the pace of work could be increased. He asked to organise a meeting with K-Electric to discuss the transfer of utility lines on the Red Line BRT route.
During the meeting, TransKarachi Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Wasif Ijal briefed the attendees about the progress of the project. He shared that the construction zone, from Malir Halt to Mosimayat, has been handed over to the contractor for construction. He disclosed that 60% of the three-kilometre-long stormwater drain, from Tank Chowk to Check Post No 6 of Malir Cantt has been completed.

The news source mentioned that the excavation for the construction of the underpass at Tipu Sultan Society has been completed and work on the Hydrant-Race Course underpass is in progress. He also stated that the work has started at the Malir Halt bus depot.
