Karachi: Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair has announced that work on four development projects, along with three flyovers, two roads, and firefighting tenders equipped with modern technology would be launched in Karachi during next week, according to a news report.
Zubair added that these would cost PKR 8.61 billion and are part of the Karachi Development Package which was announced by the Prime Minister last year. These details were given by Zubair during a press conference at Governor House on 9th May 2018. In addition to these projects, more flyovers would be constructed at Sakhi Hasan, Five Star and Board Office, Manghopir Road and Nishtar Road. Additionally, modern hospitals and medical college in the University of Karachi costing PKR 8.4 billion have also been proposed to be constructed.
Talking about various other projects, Zubair added that projects under the Karachi Package including Lyari Expressway had been completed, however, projects such as Green Line Metro and K-4 water supply were suffering from delays because of infrastructural issues. Giving details on Green Line Metro, he said that the project is primarily an extension from Gurumandir to Tower, but because of technical problems of shifting water, sewerage and other lines, couldn’t be completed on time. He also added that a fleet of buses were being added to the Green Line Metro.
Zubair also added that the federal government was initiating such uplift projects in the city, primarily because the city is considered the economic hub for the entire country.
