Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan is all set to launch a development package for South Punjab, worth PKR 581 billion in order to improve power supply, infrastructure, and provide access to information technology, according to news published on Tuesday (March 15).

As per the details, 122 projects have been selected which includes recently approved projects and the launching of new projects. The development package was finalised in collaboration with the South Punjab Secretariat and the government of Punjab. It has already been presented to the PM during his visit to Lahore last week.
Reportedly, PKR 182 billion will be utilised for 44 projects proposed by the Punjab government, while PKR 52 billion will be spent on 21 new schemes already approved to be funded under Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP). Moreover, 13 ongoing schemes, worth PKR 134 billion will also be included in the package. The Ignite and Universal Services Fund will finance 39 Information Technology (IT) projects.
Here are details about the projects included under the development package:
- Construction of Dera Ghazi (DG) Khan southern bypass, at the cost of PKR 6.6 billion
- Expansion of 90-kilometre long section Qila Saifullah – Multan (N-70) at D.G Khan, worth PKR 15.8 billion
- Dualisation of head Muhammad Wala bridge on River Chenab for PKR 7 billion
- Construction of bridge on River Chenab linking Shujaabad and Khan Garh, at the cost of PKR 7.2 billion
- Dualisation of Vehari-Abdul Hakim Road, at the total cost of PKR 13 billion
- Building a bridge on River Chenab to connect Shaher Sultan with Jalapur Pirwala, worth PKR 6.5 billion
- Dualisation 139-kilometre long road from Muzaffargarh to Taranda Muhammad Panah via Alipur

- Construction of bridge on River Chenab at Mud Waal to connect Jalapur Pirwala to Alipur for PKR 5.7 billion
- Development of the road from Garh Maharaja to Chowk Munda, at the total cost of PKR 5 billion
- Bahawalpur (N-5) connectivity to Multan Sukkur Motorway worth PKR 6 billion
- Dualisation of Multan-Shujaabad-Jalalpur Pirwala Road, at the cost of PKR 8.5 billion
- Development of Murunj Dam on Kaha Hill Torrent, at the cost of PKR 10 billion
The following are the details about the new PSDP projects:
- Construction of roads on River Indus in Rahim Yar Khan (RYK)
- Establishment of 220-kilovolts (kV) Dharki-RYK power transmission station, at the cost of PKR 15.8 billion
- Dualisation of Mian Channu Road for PKR 2.1 billion
