Islamabad: Development work on the Rashakai Economic Zone (REZ) is expected to begin in the first quarter this year, reported a news source. The zone is being developed under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.
In terms of land acquisition, 1,000 acres of land has been acquired for REZ’s Phase I, and 2,000 acres for its phase II project. According to sources from CPEC Secretariat, development of REZ will provide countless employment opportunities for the people of Nowshera.
Under the CPEC arrangement, 19 economic zones will be set up across the country. These zones will house industries for packing fruits, vegetables, and other food items. In addition, they will also feature textile units for stitching and knitting fabric. Additional arrangements will be made for setting up related industrial units.
REZ is located on Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway (M-1) in Nowshera. Its distance from the airport is 65 km, with the railway station only being 15 km away. From Nowshera city-centre, the distance is marked at 15 km, while the dry port lies at a span of 65 km.
