Islamabad: Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Murtaza Javed Abbasi on Thursday informed the National Assembly (NA) that so far 30% work has been completed on New Balakot City, according to news sources.

During the questioning section of the meeting, the minister revealed that the federal government has released PKR 1.5 billion to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government in 2007 for the project’s land acquisition. The PC-1 of the New Balakot City development project was approved for PKR 12,000 million by the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC).

Minister Abbasi said that a total of PKR 2,969 million were released and utilized for the project. He said that the KP government is responsible for completing the remaining 70% work. The minister associated the delay in the project development with the non-availability of encumbrance-free property, lacking funds and local resistance.
