Lahore: The provincial government has decided to increase the urban development budget by PKR 10 billion for the expansion of road infrastructure in Lahore, according to news sources.

The housing department will work in a partnership with other relevant departments for this project. The new urban development projects will include the construction of underpasses, new U-turns, subways, and will make roads signal-free.
Furthermore, the government has decided to make Lahore a smart city. Since last year, the government has been striving to transform Lahore into a smart city. For this initiative, the Punjab Municipal Department has collaborated with the Punjab Information and Technology Board (PITB). This programme is expected to cost PKR 0.85 billion.

A parking stand, street light sensors, waste bin sensors, and air quality sensors will be installed in the city as part of this programme. According to reports, electronic devices for parking payments will also be installed at the parking stand. Real-time monitoring and management of smart city applications will also be made possible.
