Islamabad: A Design Engineering Services & Construction Limited-led (DESCON) group on Tuesday formally received an anticipated government contract worth PKR Rs165.523 billion for constructing the Mohmand Dam Hydropower project, a news source reported.

This Joint Venture (JV) of the China Gezhouba Group Company Limited and DESCON initially submitted a bid worth PKR 183.523 billion for the project.
After a series of negotiations, however, the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) convinced the group to reduce the bid amount. As a result, the Gezhouba-DESCON duo agreed to build the dam at a cost of PKR 165.523 billion.

Reportedly, civil and electro-mechanical work on the Mohmand Dam project will begin in March 2019. The proposed water scheme will be completed in a timeframe of five years and eight months. It will be constructed on River Swat in Mohmand district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
