Four floors had been constructed in the first phase, with two added during the second. This development had disrupted the stream’s natural flow. Illegal constructions on about 2 acres of land still continued to roll out. They threatened to cause flooding in Clifton’s Teen Talwar area during rainfall spells.
At present, KMC Deputy Director Mueen Ghori is overseeing the demolition process.
A few months ago, the former Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Justice Saqib Nisar, and the Mayor Karachi had visited this area. The chief justice had expressed his displeasure at the illegal constructions in the area.
KMC began taking action against the unauthorized apartment building on the instructions of the Supreme Court following the visit. This initiative forms part of the local authorities’ anti-encroachment drive around the city – ordered by the apex court.
