Gujrat: Teams of the Municipal Corporation carried out an anti-encroachment operation on Kachehri Road, a news source reported. Several illegal structures were demolished in the process.
The president of the local traders’ association requested the team lead to postpone the drive for three days so that the traders could demolish the encroachments themselves.
In December, the authorities concerned had retrieved over 54,000 kanals of land from illegal occupants and encroachers in Lahore. A report in this regard was presented to Lahore Division Commissioner Dr Mujtaba Paracha. According to the report, the land retrieved was worth PKR 20.935 billion.
The anti-encroachment operation is part of a wider campaign initiated by the Punjab government in its bid to retrieve state land, spread over hundreds of thousands of acres from land mafias and remodel the city under a master plan.
