Karachi: The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar has ordered the demolition of all illegal walls which are being used to display advertisements in Karachi, according to a news report. In a statement, the CJP asked for all demolition to be done within 10 days, while the apex court has banned the construction of walls for displaying advertisements.
The Karachi Cantonment Board CEO shared that the cantonment boards had issued notices to the advertisement companies but the CJP has said that the notices won’t make any difference and that strict action needs to be taken. The Karachi Cantonment Board CEO added that some walls had been erected for security reasons and couldn’t be removed. The Supreme Court has ordered demolishing of the walls and submitting of a progress report within 10 days.
The CJP has given a month’s time to Mayor Wasim Akhtar for cleaning all of the city’s drains. Nisar also said that the condition of drainpipes in the metropolis is really bad and needs to be rectified. The CJP has said that he would inspect the condition of these next month. To this, Akhtar said that the water commission’s report on water facilities has been presented, and plan for cleaning the pipes has been formulated, and an approval for PKR 700 billion has also been granted.
