Karachi: The planned inauguration of New Islamabad International Airport, which was earlier scheduled to take place on August 14, may be delayed for another four months, a spokesperson of Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) told the media. The tools and systems required for flight operations at the airport haven’t been installed yet, he said
In addition, the connected roads that lead to the new airport are still in their initial development phase; it will take a while before they can be completed. Former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif visited the facility last month and instructed the authorities concerned to ensure that airport was ready for inauguration on August 14. According to a PCAA spokesperson, the authority is working hard to meet this deadline.
