Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has ordered the departments concerned to take strict action against the powerful land mafia and prepare a package to restore the capital’s natural beauty, reported a news source. He issued the orders while holding a meeting with Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Afridi, Special Assistant to PM Ali Nawaz Awan and Member National Assembly Raja Khurram Nawaz. Senior officials from interior ministry and capital administration were also present at the meeting.
News sources have learnt that Khan directed the meeting members to prepare a comprehensive package to restore the natural beauty of Islamabad. This package will cover the completion of all stalled projects including maintenance of roads, completion of water supply schemes, development of new residential sectors, mechanism for disposal, management of waste, and installation of street lights.
The meeting observed that the development and beautification of Islamabad has been ignored due to the division of administrative powers between Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad and Capital Development Authority. Khan was told that even after almost 6 decades of its foundation, Islamabad still lacks basic facilities. He was also briefed on operations carried out against encroachers and land grabbers.
It was decided in the meeting that a committee will be formed to deal with the land mafia, drug dealers and encroachers in the federal capital. The committee will be supervised by Ali Nawaz Awan and Khurram Nawaz. Khan said that no concession will be given land grabbers who have been deprive people of their land. He also assured that the local administration and Capital Police will be given support so that the law is implemented to make Islamabad a model city.
Khan also made it clear that the ongoing projects against illegal occupants of land and land grabbers will not slow down; instead, the operation will be accelerated with the support of residents of Islamabad and the media.
