Islamabad: In a groundbreaking move for Pakistan’s infrastructure development, the construction of the Jinnah Square Murree Road Underpass in Islamabad is set to be completed within just 35 days. This ambitious project is a key component of a broader signal-free corridor initiative designed to alleviate traffic congestion along the vital route from Islamabad Airport to Murree.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the construction site recently to inspect the progress and ensure that the project is on track to meet its fast-approaching deadline. During his visit, Minister Naqvi emphasized the importance of balancing speed with quality. “Speed is important, but quality must not be compromised,” he said, highlighting the need for precision in executing the project.
The underpass, which spans 479 meters and will feature three traffic lanes, is a critical part of efforts to ease traffic bottlenecks in the capital. The project also includes the widening of an adjoining bridge, with two additional lanes on each side, as well as the expansion of four nearby slip roads to facilitate smoother traffic flow. These improvements are expected to significantly reduce travel time and ease the daily commuting experience for both locals and tourists.
In addition to the infrastructural upgrades, the government has outlined a plan for managing alternate traffic arrangements during construction to minimize public inconvenience. The goal is to ensure that traffic disruptions are kept to a minimum while the project is completed within the set timeframe.

Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa provided an update on the project’s progress, assuring that work on both the underpass structure and the road network is advancing rapidly. He expressed confidence that the project will meet the 35-day deadline, marking a significant achievement in the city’s ongoing efforts to improve urban mobility and infrastructure. Once completed, the Jinnah Square Underpass will play a key role in easing traffic congestion, particularly during peak tourist seasons, by improving access to the Murree Road area. This project is expected to benefit both Islamabad’s residents and visitors, providing a more efficient route to one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations.
