Islamabad: The Chiniot Dam is expected to be completed by December 2022 and will generate 80 megawatts (MW) of environment-friendly and cheap electricity, according to a news story published on May 16.

As per the details, the dam is located on the Chenab River, 5-kilometres away from Chiniot city. The said project has gross storage of 0.90 million acre-feet (MAF). The project is being implemented by the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA).
Moreover, the government will provide PKR 50 million funds under Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) while the remaining PKR 96.330 million funds will be provided by WAPDA. The Divisional Development Working Party (DDWP) has approved the PC-II Proforma subject to certain conditions.

According to a WAPDA official, the said project will help generate water supply for the city. The dam will also create new job opportunities for the locals including tourism spots for recreational purposes and fisheries projects. He went on to say that small dams will help store rainwater and floodwater which can be used for irrigation and domestic purposes.
