Lahore: The Government of Punjab has decided to extend the deadline for the temporary shutdown of kilns by one week, reported a news source. As per previous orders, the kilns were to remain shut between October 20 and December 31 in order to control smog in the province.
The extension has been granted as the weather conditions so far seem capable to resist factors causing smog. The new deadline for the kilns to shut down is October 27. Reportedly, kiln owners have been holding protests against this shutdown, stating that it will leave hundreds of thousand people jobless. Punjab Capital had also recommended the government to take the decision back.
