Lahore: The Punjab government has set December 2021 as the deadline for the completion of phase 1 of the clean drinkable water provision project for the provincial rural areas, news sources reported. Launched under the Aab-e-Pak Authority, the project will serve a total of 7.6 million people in 36 districts of the province, the majority of whom live in rural regions.

Under the project, by the end of the deadline, clean potable water from tube wells, canals, filtration plants and other resources will be delivered at 1,538 water centers. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD) of the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Syed Syed Zahid Aziz has stated that a contract has been awarded to launch work on the construction of 1,200 water centers.

The previous project, costing PKR 7.5 billion, was launched with the assistance of 53 companies and included the installation of 115 filtration units. However, the initiative was unable to reap the anticipated advantages.
