Islamabad: The Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) has approved an ‘amnesty scheme’ for construction and consulting firms under which, the deadline to file renewal of license has been extended, a news source reported on October 14. The decision was reportedly taken during the PEC meeting of the Management Committee.

The news source mentioned that the management committee has approved the amnesty scheme on the motion of PEC Vice Chairman Sindh Engineer Mukhtiar Sheikh. Under this amnesty scheme, the companies who couldn’t file for license renewal will be able to do so by paying 10% of the previous year’s fee and this year’s full fee before December 31 2022.

The vice chairman stated that the construction industry in the country has suffered huge losses due to COVID-19, the financial crisis, global inflation, and the recent floods. Keeping in mind these conditions, the council has decided to provide relief to the construction sector.
