As per details, this practice has allowed families to submit income tax returns under the names of their deceased relatives, often due to the failure to submit death certificates. FBR Chairman Rashid Langrial emphasised the need for timely submission of death certificates to facilitate the proper deactivation of these SIM cards. He noted that, in some instances, children or relatives opt to keep their deceased parents’ SIM cards active as a sentimental gesture.
Additionally, the committee was informed that the FBR has requested a report from the Director General of Excise Punjab regarding the lack of permission for alcohol exports from Pakistan, following complaints from industry representatives. Langrial also mentioned that a draft ordinance has been prepared to enhance enforcement measures in this area, with potential introduction imminent.
