Lahore: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Saliha Saeed was recently briefed on the situation of underground water in Lahore, a news source reported. The DC was chairing a meeting of the water commission.
The meeting was attended by assistant commissioners and representatives from WASA, education, and other departments.
After the briefing, the deputy commissioner said that if the current circumstances persist, the underground water table will fall low. She said that a strategy needs to be prepared the situation.
She further that WASA’s water conservation public service message should be played before movies at cinema halls. Additionally awareness campaigns on water conservation should be conducted through schools.
It was also decided that water used for ablution in the mosques should be saved underground and then used to water plants.
Moreover, the remaining water recycling units should be installed at the remaining 147 service stations and all industrial units should be made to install water treatment plants.
